A dental implant is a titanium metal post which is permanently placed into the jawbone to hold one or more false teeth in place as a solution to one or more missing teeth. Once integrated into the bone a crown or bridge, coloured to match the existing teeth, is placed over the implant to restore normal look and function. It is a particularly good option if dentures don't work well for you.
Implants are a well-established, tried-and-tested treatment with a high success rate and are becoming increasingly popular. They are safe, non-toxic and totally biocompatible with the human body. There is no upper age limit for dental implants and they can be of great benefit especially to our more mature patients, making dentures more comfortable and allowing eating to become a pleasure again.
Implants are almost always a straightforward procedure and are routinely performed at our practice. Treatment is carried out under local anaesthetic. Looked after properly, and by maintaining good oral hygiene modern implants should last for many years, if not a lifetime.
